APRIL - 2022

Spring-cleaning traditionally kicks off the season with a sense of renewal as you clean and declutter your space. Dust and allergens that build up over the long winter need to be removed, especially with the onset of the allergy season. Cleaning and organizing your space not only benefits your immune system, it can also boost your mood, and offer a task that promotes focus and reflection. Here are 5 tips to keep in mind as you tackle your spring cleaning!

1- Make a Checklist & Schedule
Scope out your home: What areas need the most work? Where do you skip during routine cleaning? Those are the best places to start. Regardless of where you start, having a plan will keep you focused and less overwhelmed.

2- Work From Top To Bottom
When planning your deep-clean approach, it’s important to start from the ceiling down. This will force debris downward and keep you from having to re-dust or re-clean your space. If you have a vacuum with an extension hose, use it to get cobwebs and dust from your ceilings and fans first. Then dust your furniture and other items before vacuuming all the dust and debris off your floors. It will save you time and effort!

3- Declutter
Studies have found that a relaxing and clutter-free home has a positive effect on people’s daily mood and ability to focus. the process of sorting through items, reorganizing, and getting rid of the excess by tossing, donating, or recycling them can be liberating and decrease stress.  Only keep and reorganize items that “spark joy or help you live the life you want.

4- Air Quality
Spring is the perfect time to replace your furnace & HVAC filters. replacing a standard filter with a more robust one with a high MERV rating will help keep you healthier as you enter spring. It will catch smaller, irritating particles. Air conditioner ducts build up dust during winter, and upgraded filters catch unwanted particles so they don’t enter your space. It’s an inexpensive way to make sure you’re breathing clean, healthy air. Also, think about investing in an air purifier. This can really help allergy sufferers combat the impact of spring allergies.

5- Healthy Lifestyle
Your physical home can set you up for an active life and healthy food choices. Spring-cleaning is often a moment that motivates us to reset and adopt healthier lifestyle choices. Donate workout clothes you rarely wear, and organize your favorite activewear in a separate drawer for easy access. In the kitchen, arrange healthier to be more accessible and at eye level to encourage healthier choices.. Clean out your pantry and refrigerator to eliminate expired or unhealthy foods. Also try to open your windows each day to let fresh air circulate in your home.

However you decide to spring clean, remember to be kind to yourself. You don’t need to do everything in one weekend. Allow yourself to achieve your goals at a reasonable pace and remember to get outside on these beautiful spring days.
